Research and creative inquiry are at the heart of what we do. Whether in the studio or lab, lecture theatre or library, it is where we engage in our essential work. The quest for knowledge, for new discovery and understanding, permeates everything we do.
The Office of Vice President (Research) supports and advances the University’s large and complex research and innovation enterprise, and emphasizes the importance of linking research to teaching. We work closely with other UAlberta portfolios, with external partners and stakeholders, and provide leadership, guidance and various research related services:
Grant/funding administration and oversight, grant writing support, research policies and procedures, research ethics. We also administer internal research awards.
Liaise with funding agencies and government.
Foster and build research collaborations and promote industry partnerships.
Facilitate innovation, entrepreneurship, and knowledge and technology transfer.
Promote UAlberta research and its resulting outcomes and benefits, and position Alberta and Canada on the global research and innovation map.
Our portfolio supports UAlberta’s research community and helps ensure that faculty, staff, students, postdoctoral fellows, and academic visitors involved in research, partnership and innovation activities adhere to the highest operational, financial, legal, ethical, and safety standards. We also develop and administer policies to ensure regulatory compliance.
