The University of Alberta is one of Canada’s largest research-intensive universities, with over 30,000 undergraduates, 6,000 Master’s and PhD students, and 3,000 full-time faculty.
In 2010-11 we attracted $536 million in external research funding.
Our Mandate

Our job is to
- build top-level provincial, national, and international research collaborations;
- liaise with funding agencies and governments;
- promote industry partnership;
- to maximize the benefits of our research to the scholarly community and to the quality of life locally, provincially, and nationally; and
- help to place Canada at the global forefront of groundbreaking research and innovation.
